Muzaffarpur is the 2nd leading centre of education in Bihar after Patna. It has a medical and an engineering college and is seat of one of the oldest universities of Bihar (Bihar University, now known as B. R. Ambedkar Bihar University. Muzaffarpur Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital and L.S.College is one of the oldest college here. The first President of Indian Republic - "Dr Rajendra Prasad" was a teacher in the Greer Bhumihiar Brahman College, Muzaffarpur.

Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital

The college was established in 1979 with an aim to produce promoters of social transformation endowed with the spirit of service to mankind through moral and college excellence of the best of the East and the West.

It is a matter of great pleasure that Muzaffarpur Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Raghunath Pandey Nagar, Rahuo Aapuchh, M.I.C. Bela, Muzaffarpur is the resultant of a creative imagination of Late Raghunath Pandey, Minister, Govt. of Bihar and philanthropic ideas of Sri Amar Nath Pandey, Secretary of the college who is determined to develop this institution into an ideal one to popularize the scope of Homoeopathic system of Medicine in the interest of the suffering humanity. The management of the college has a plan to convert this area into an institutional area having Dental, Law College and many other technical and non-technical institutions in this vast area of the campus. This college is permanently affiliated to B.R.A.,Bihar University, Muzaffarpur and recognized by Govt. of India Deptt. of AYUS, New Delhi.

Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology

Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology is a premier technical institution of eastern India established in 1954. MIT, Muzaffarpur is under administrative control of department of science and technology and wholly funded by Govt. of Bihar. It is affiliated to B.R.A. Bihar University and offers UG courses in seven streams of engineering with postgraduate specialisation in Machine design and thermal engineering. The institute caters to the research and development activities of the state of Bihar.

B. R. Ambedkar Bihar University

Bihar University is a public university located in the north prime of Bihar state in the city of Muzaffarpur in India. Established in 1952 with headquarters at Patna.The citizens of Muzaffarpur started the demand to bring the headquarters of Bihar University from Patna to Muzaffarpur. A steering committee was formed for this purpose with Dr Maghfoor Ahmad Ajazi as its convenor. The other members of this committee included Acharya J.B.Kriplani, Ashok Mehta, Mahamaya Prasad Sinha and Mahesh Prasad Sinha. At last the public stir succeeded and UGC directed to shift the headquarters from Patna to Muzaffarpur. Later on this university was renamed as B.R. Ambedkar Bihar University. This university has 37 constituent colleges. Distance education courses are also offered. Besides, the university also organizes symposia, seminars and workshops. The university is a premier institution of teaching and learning in the city and offers various full-time and part-time courses ranging from undergraduate to postgraduate and research level. Langat Singh College

(Estd : July 3, 1899) - This the oldest college of Muzaffarpur. Langat Singh College affiliated to the University of Bihar had the likes of Dinkar (a famous Hindi poet), Dr. Rajendra Prasad (the first President of India), and Acharya J. B. Kriplani as its faculty members.

Ram Dayalu Singh College

It is named after Babu Ram Dayalu Singh, the first assembly speaker of Bihar. It is now one of the premier colleges of Bihar. The college has columns of buildings and three ponds. There are four faculties here-Science, Arts, Commerce, and Geography. Still students from West Bengal, Assam, Orrissa and Kerala come to study commerce and English.

The JPS (The Jaintpur Public School)

It is one of the best schools of Muzaffarpur. Many students of this school are highly placed and many of them are pursuing their higher education from IITs, Medicals and other engineering colleges. The chairperson of this school (Smt. Usha Sinha) had been the education minister of Bihar during Congress rule.

St. Xavier's Jr./Sr.School

St. Xavier's Junior/Senior School is an exclusive co-educational English medium school having classes from Nursery to 10+2. The school is affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi upto +2 Level.The school was established in 1976 and has been administered by Chandra Children's Welfare Society registered under the Societies Reg. ACT XXI of 1860 in the chairmanship of Mr. S.Chandra, under whose able direction and guidance several schools are being run successfully in different parts of U.P., BIHAR & NEPAL for more than three decades.

Prabhat Tara School

One of the oldest and most reputed schools having many distinguished alumni in India and abroad. The school has the largest and the most beautiful campus among all the schools in Muzaffarpur.
